Simon Johnson (Stores Team Leader at Polymermedics) and Adam Baker (Material Handler at Polymermedics) have organized an amazing fundraising for “The Grand Appeal” to support children and their families in Bristol Children’s Hospital. Established in 1995, Wallace & Gromit’s Grand Appeal helps 100,000 patients each year.
Simon had especially close ties with this charity, due to the lifesaving work they have done for his niece Kaya, who was born prematurely with her skull not fully formed, Kaya now enjoys a great quality of life thanks to BCH. Evie is a little girl in Adam’s son’s class, BCH diagnosed her with a brain aneurysm in February 2016, BCH provided potentially lifesaving treatment in a very short period of time. So Simon and Adam decided that it was their turn to give back to the hospital for the treatment both girls received.

Months of preparation ended up with a 12-hour Charity Golf Marathon at Porthpean golf club — Polymermedics Bandits golf society. The guys managed to get local businesses involved: numerous companies contributed by donating amazing auction and raffle prizes. The participants were divided into eight teams of two players, engaged in non-competitive play. While entrants had to carry around their golf bags for an impressive 13.5 miles, all other visitors enjoyed professional golf lessons, glitter tattoos and bouncy castles.
Eventually, Simon and Adam were able to raise more than £4000. We think that they did a great job, and it was an honour for us at Polymermedics to support such a heartwarming charity. Events such as these inspire us to make changes within our communities and build a better world around us. If you would like to support Bristol Children’s Hospital, please click here.
